The predicted salary is between 37035 - 45265 £ per year.

One full time post from August 2026. The post is CT3 equivalent with the appointed candidate supported in completion of all key competencies as set by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Additional support with FRCA exam practice is provided with a strong department teaching programme.

Anaesthetic services are provided for 12 Main Theatres covering a wide range of surgical specialties including: General and Vascular Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, Maxillofacial and Dental, Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Urology, Orthopaedics and Trauma. There is a separate Day Surgery Unit with 4 fully equipped theatres. There are 2 theatres and a recovery bay in the labour ward complex for elective and emergency cases. The intensive care unit provides high quality care for 22 level 3 and level 2 beds.

The Fellow would be expected to spend his clinical service commitment in the anaesthetic department and an additional 1 in 8 on-call commitment with internal cover either to theatres or ITU (EWTD compliant shift system). There is daily clinical teaching in the theatres and once weekly teaching held on the unit, organised and supervised by the Consultants. Involvement in high quality research & development is strongly encouraged at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, as this supports both the delivery of high-quality clinical care.

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provide hospital and community services from a number of community and specialist clinics throughout Croydon. These include:

  • Croydon University Hospital
  • The Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre in Thornton Heath
  • Community bases at Purley, Sanderstead, New Addington, Broad Green, Woodside
  • A minor injuries unit in New Addington

Job Details:

  • Hours: 40 (including 1:8 on call commitments in either critical care unit or theatres commensurate with experience)
  • Department: Anaesthetics & Critical Care
  • Reports To: Anaesthetic lead and divisional lead

GENERAL: The remit of the postholder will be to support the departments of Anaesthesia and ITU in day to day activities. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department.

PURPOSE OF JOB: The post is CT3 equivalent with the appointed candidate supported in completion of all key competencies as set by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Additional support with FRCA exam practice is provided with a strong department teaching programme.

The CT3 Equivalent post will offer the following:

  • Access to pre-operative anaesthetic assessment clinics
  • General anaesthesia with experience of elective and emergency surgery for ASA 1-4 patients, Paediatric experience for children aged five and over and experience of TIVA
  • Regional anaesthesia with training in ultrasound guided regional techniques
  • Obstetric anaesthesia with 3 months experience in obstetrics including management of ASA 3 parturients
  • Resuscitation and transfer as part of the medical emergency team and involvement in intra-hospital transfers
  • Pain management with access to pain management clinics and acute pain ward rounds
  • Intensive Care with three months experience in adult intensive care unit for those trainees with only three months completed at core level

Doctors in these posts will also be allocated named educational supervisors, ability to attend teaching sessions and departmental quality improvement meetings. They will be helped in preparing for the Primary or Final FRCA exam. The SLAP (South London Anaesthetic Primary) course exclusively run at Croydon has to date achieved very high pass rates. The post holder will be actively encouraged to take exams and attend/contribute to in-house teaching.
