Job Summary
We're recruiting a
Consultant Rheumatologist to support a growing rheumatology service, delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care across outpatient and diagnostic pathways.
This role offers a varied clinical caseload, including early arthritis services, complex inflammatory conditions and long‑term condition management. We welcome consultants who are keen to contribute to service development and help shape care models alongside specialist pharmacists, physiotherapists and extended‑scope clinicians.
About You
You're a Consultant Rheumatologist who enjoys working in a busy outpatient setting and takes pride in delivering compassionate, evidence‑based care. You communicate confidently, work collaboratively with colleagues and bring a calm, considered approach to managing complex rheumatic disease.
You're keen to further develop your specialist interests while contributing positively to a cohesive, patient‑focused rheumatology service.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver rheumatology outpatient clinics, providing specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning
Contribute to enhanced services such as early arthritis pathways and subspecialty clinics
Provide evidence‑based management of inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue disease, vasculitis and metabolic bone disorders
Offer clear, supportive advice to patients, families, GPs and healthcare partners
Monitor disease activity, treatment outcomes and long‑term progress, escalating concerns where appropriate
Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with professional and organisational standards
Work collaboratively with physiotherapy, pharmacy, CNS teams and wider MDT colleagues to ensure continuity of care and a positive patient experience
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
At least 6 months NHS experience, with a good understanding of NHS systems and processes
Strong outpatient rheumatology experience, including complex inflammatory disease management
Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
Excellent communication and clinical reasoning skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Compassionate, patient‑centred approach
Subspecialty interest such as early arthritis, connective tissue disease or vasculitis
Experience supporting service development, teaching or quality improvement
Involvement in audit or research activity
