The Community Equipment Clinical Therapist / Clinical Advisor will provide accessible, day-to-day clinical expertise to the prescriber community, helping professionals make safe, proportionate and person-centred equipment decisions.

Working across children's and adult services, health and social care, the postholder will support prescribers to identify the most appropriate equipment, minor adaptations and assistive solutions based on each person's needs, goals, strengths, risks and home circumstances. The central purpose of the role is to help ensure that people receive the right support, at the right time and in the right way, promoting independence, dignity, safety and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Equipment pathway, prescribing and operational support
  • Catalogue, product evaluation and procurement
  • Clinical governance, quality and safety
  • Prescriber development, training and engagement
  • Provide accessible, evidence-based advice to clinical and non-clinical prescribers on the selection, specification, safe use and review of community equipment, minor adaptations and related assistive solutions.
  • Provide expert advice on complex, unusual, high-risk or high-cost cases, including special and bespoke orders, while ensuring that the prescribing professional retains responsibility for the individual clinical decision.
  • Promote person-centred, strengths-based and proportionate approaches that balance clinical need, independence, dignity, risk, prevention and value.
  • Support consistent decision-making across children's and adults' services and across health, social care, education and housing interfaces.
  • Escalate unsafe, inappropriate or potentially non-compliant practice and support timely corrective action.
  • Maintain an up-to‑date understanding of relevant clinical evidence, professional standards, legislation, national guidance and emerging assistive technologies.
