  • About the Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Employee Relations Manager (Band 7) to join the HR & Organisational Development team in Croydon.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced NHS HR professional to provide specialist Employee Relations leadership within a large, complex and diverse healthcare organisation.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering a proactive and professional ER service, supporting managers with complex employee matters and helping to embed positive, restorative approaches to workplace relationships.

The Role

As an Employee Relations Manager, you will work closely with the Head of Employee Relations to ensure the ER team provides a high-quality advisory service across the Trust.

You will provide expert advice and guidance on complex employee relations matters, support managers through challenging cases and ensure processes are managed fairly, consistently and in line with employment legislation, NHS policies and ACAS guidance.

Key responsibilities include

  • Providing specialist advice on complex Employee Relations matters including disciplinary, grievance, capability, dignity at work and conduct cases.
  • Managing highly complex investigations and supporting formal hearings.
  • Advising managers and senior leaders on best practice approaches to people management.
  • Managing and developing the Senior Employee Relations Advisor team.
  • Supporting the delivery of a proactive ER service focused on early resolution and restorative approaches.
  • Ensuring investigations are completed to a high standard, within agreed timescales and with appropriate documentation.
  • Working closely with Trade Unions, HR Business Partners and senior stakeholders.
  • Supporting employment tribunal preparation and liaising with external legal advisors where required.
  • Developing and updating HR policies, guidance documents and supporting materials.
  • Delivering ER training and coaching managers to confidently manage employee issues.
  • Producing reports, analysing ER trends and supporting service improvements.
  • Deputising for the Head of Employee Relations when required.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have

  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
  • CIPD qualification and professional registration.
  • Extensive experience delivering Employee Relations advice within a large, complex organisation.
  • Strong NHS experience or experience within a similar unionised/public sector environment.
  • Proven experience managing complex investigations and hearings.
  • Experience managing and developing HR teams.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and its practical application.
  • Experience developing HR policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism, confidence and empathy.
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Experience working with HR systems and producing management reports.
