A leading main contractor in the Crawley area is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team on a freelance basis. This is an excellent opportunity to play a central role in the commercial delivery of a variety of construction projects, working closely with project managers, subcontractors, and supply chain partners. The commercial team is key to the successful delivery of projects across multiple sectors. In this role, you will support procurement, commercial management, and contractual processes on a range of construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement & Cost Planning
    • Prepare and quantify materials, labour, and subcontractor requirements
    • Support procurement and subcontractor appointment processes
    • Ensure compliance with company commercial procedures and frameworks
    • Collaborate with project managers and site teams to ensure cost efficiency and project viability
    • Maintain adherence to project specifications, programmes, and quality standards
  • Cost Control & Reporting
    • Monitor and report on project costs, including variations and site valuations
    • Process contractor, subcontractor, and consultant orders and payments
    • Manage variation orders and dayworks
    • Conduct monthly site valuations and cost reporting
    • Undertake the Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) process
    • Produce cost-to-complete forecasts and final account projections

Experience & Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Surveyor within main contracting or general construction
  • Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, Health & Safety requirements, and commercial construction practices
  • Relevant construction or commercial qualification (e.g., RICS, CIOB)
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors
  • IT literate, ideally with experience using COINS, Asta, or similar commercial systems
