Stroke Clinical Nurse Specialist | University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the stroke department. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to deliver Hyper Acute stroke specialist care.

You will be joining a team of Clinical nurse specialists who are now covering the service 24/7.

We have recently increased our medical cover to assist the Stroke Nurses with FAST positive patients 24/7.

This is a very exciting time for Stroke as we have centralised the Stroke services are working towards expanding the Thrombectomy service.

Secondment will be considered for internal candidates – If you are successful after interview, you must obtain approval from your current line manager to accept the offer.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

As Stroke Specialist Nurse the post holder will practice under the direction of the Stroke Services Team Leader, working interdependently within their scope of clinical practice and in conjunction with other relevant clinical leads.

The post holder will assist with clinical development in maintaining and improving all aspects of clinical governance, evidence based practice and quality assurance within the Stroke Service.

To provide clinical coordination in the service delivered to patients diagnosed with Stoke or TIA within University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust and in conjunction with our partnership Trusts.

  • Demonstrate developed and advanced specialist Stroke knowledge and skills through innovative practice, leading to the development of increasing levels of autonomy.
  • Deliver formal and informal teaching initiatives as part of stroke education strategy as agreed with Medical Stroke Lead to ensure practice development and improved care for patients.
  • Act as a mentor/Clinical supervisor as appropriate.
  • To review patients on admission; ensure patients have timely access to appropriate investigations, referrals and assessments and that relevant personnel are informed.

Facilitate the direct admission of patients to Hyper-acute Stroke Unit as per stroke agenda; timely transfer to rehabilitation and subsequent pathway as per local guidelines.

  • Manage a cohort of patients and prioritise workload to meet patient and service needs working flexibly as agreed with Stroke Services Team Leader to also include involvement in follow up clinics in consultation with Stroke Consultants.
  • To participate in FAST stroke bleep cover and also support ward staff in taking the lead on the Stroke ward both hyper-acute and rehabilitation patients.
