Specialist Acute Rotational Physiotherapist

UHCW NHS Trust is seeking highly motivated Band 6 Physiotherapists to join our inpatient therapy team.

This rotational post offers the opportunity to develop specialist skills across T&O, Neurosciences, Cardiothoracics, General Critical Care, Major Trauma, and Surgery.

Our T&O service encompasses a wide variety of elective and trauma surgical pathways, alongside a dedicated Major Trauma Enhanced Care Unit.

Offering excellent opportunities to develop expertise in complex orthopaedic care.

The Neurosciences Team manages patients with a range of complex conditions.

Strong clinical reasoning, communication and discharge planning skills are essential to support patients throughout their recovery.

The Cardiothoracic Unit is a regional specialist centre comprising critical care and ward-based services.

Patients undergo routine and complex cardiac, thoracic and upper gastrointestinal procedures, providing a diverse caseload.

Our General Critical Care Unit offers valuable experience managing acutely unwell patients and developing specialist respiratory and rehabilitation skills.

The Major Trauma team coordinates specialist rehabilitation across the organisation.

Physiotherapists contribute to rehabilitation planning, MDT coordination and rehabilitation prescriptions to optimise patient outcomes.

The Surgical team supports a range of specialties, including Head and Neck services, making this an excellent opportunity for professional development within a leading teaching hospital.

The successful candidates will work within integrated teams of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.

We are looking for applicants who have developed knowledge and skills to assess and treat patients with a wide variety of conditions within an acute setting.

You should also have experience in staff and student supervision, training and appraisals.

Previous involvement in service developments and audits would be advantageous.

The post holder will be required to participate in the overnight on call and weekend respiratory rota as well as the 7 day service rota for their specific area.

Training and support will be provided as required to enable participation in the respiratory rota.

All of the Therapy teams are led by experienced Band 7 Therapists who will support you in your learning and professional development.

  • Manage a caseload of patients with varying diagnoses specific to rotational area and or /complex needs, using evidence based/ client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in a defined clinical area.
  • Ensure development of junior staff through supervision, training, and annual appraisal.
  • Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of clinical practice & service development within area.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust Physiotherapy service.
  • Take a lead for information management to ensure high quality data which is recorded, evaluated & reported in a timely manner.
  • Be professionally and legally responsible & accountable for all aspects of own work and management of clinical risk within own clinical caseload.
  • Carry a clinical caseload of highly complex patients, providing advanced therapeutic assessment & evaluation.

Provide detailed written treatment plans with patient centered goals.

  • To work as an autonomous practitioner and member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to team discussions and influencing decisions about patient care programs.
  • Carry out treatments, using a broad variety of modalities and clinical reasoning to allow selection of the most appropriate technique.

Evaluating, modifying and recording all interventions and outcomes & adapting them to meet the needs of the patient.

  • Assist the team leader/clinical lead in the production and delivery of an annual report specific to clinical area & participate in the delivery of the Physiotherapy business plan.
