Senior Clinical Fellow in Care of the Elderly

A vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

This 12‑month fixed‑term contract offers development of knowledge and skills within a large acute teaching hospital for motivated doctors with an interest in Elderly Care, Frailty or General Internal Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Take ongoing responsibility for patients under your care.
• Work with colleagues to deliver Elderly Care within the Trust.
• Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and postgraduate activities.
• Participate in the on‑call rota to ensure appropriate emergency services are provided out‑of‑normal working hours, including senior support as part of the GIM rota.
• Lead the cardiac arrest team as part of GIM on‑call duties and ensure ALS qualification is up to date.
• Maintain good communication with general practitioners and appropriate external agencies.
• Demonstrate firm involvement in clinical governance, risk management and clinical audit, including developing and maintaining appropriate systems and practices for safe clinical practice.
• Undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of clinical areas, including writing discharge letters, results letters and referral letters.
• Lead and manage the team through adaptable, visible and modest leadership, driving standards, and encouraging constructive feedback and challenge.
• Produce solution‑focused decisions based on fact, recognising the value of involving different professional contributions.
• Delegate tasks effectively and with realistic expectations of others.
• Comply with health and safety policies and procedures.
• Participate in the specialty's audit and governance activities to monitor and improve standards and critical incidents, supporting evidence‑based guideline implementation.
• Participate fully in the education and training of medical students, trainee doctors, paramedical, nursing and other staff, providing honest and constructive feedback, teaching by example and encouraging curiosity.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum two years of experience within acute or general medicine post‑foundation training.
• Applicants may include trust grade doctors, individuals considering a change in specialty, or medical trainees completing OOPEs.
