A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. We are recruiting Pharmacists who want to progress their career in Hospital Clinical Pharmacy, in a rotational development post. Successful candidates will be enrolled into our innovative STAR (Support, Training, Accreditation, Rewards) programme which supports personal, clinical and career development for our Pharmacists and encompasses our:
- Band 6 to 7 Step Pathway
- Financial Development Incentive Scheme

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP. You will join our supportive department which has over 80 Clinical Pharmacists who are vital members of the multidisciplinary team and play a key role in the delivery of our comprehensive pharmacy service; ensuring our patients receive safe, effective and timely medication therapy.
You will also be enrolled onto join our innovative rotational training programme to gain experience in specialties including Acute Medicine, Renal, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Respiratory, Surgery, Neurology, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Stroke and Paediatrics. Enhanced training in areas including Aseptics & Oncology, High-Cost Medicines, Clinical Trials, Medicines Safety and Assurance, TPN, Critical Care and Digital Pharmacy can be supported once candidates have stepped up to a Band 7 level.
As part of our STAR development programme you will be supported with a development plan which includes:
- A structured induction to the department. Bespoke induction pathways are available for Pharmacists transitioning into Hospital Pharmacy from other sectors.

To participate in Pharmacy clinical services delivery involving any of the following:
- Ensuring accurate drug histories are taken and documented;
- Medicines reconciliation is completed;
- Patients own drugs are reconciled;
- Dispensing for discharge is facilitated;
- Communicate effectively with patients and/or carers to improve medication adherence.
To effectively communicate with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure safe and effective prescribing and administration practice of medicines at the Trust. To identify patients with complex pharmaceutical needs, propose solutions and refer as needed to more senior staff. To monitor patients’ response to drug treatments for efficacy and toxicity, prioritise these and take appropriate action to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines. To identify drug interactions, prioritise these and take appropriate action to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines. To identify errors on clerking including medication histories and allergies documentation, TTOs or on other prescriptions initiated during the patients’ admission. Appropriately prioritise these and take the best course of action to resolve these to ensure patient safety. To identify deviations in prescribing from guidelines or formulary standards and take appropriate action to ensure appropriate prescribing practice is maintained at the Trust. To complete all documentation according to Trust and departmental policies. To work effectively as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary and Pharmacy environment. To undertake clinical audit as required by the department. To undertake peer assessment activities as outlined in the Pharmacy Step Pathway to assess communication and decision-making skills, obtain feedback, and amend practice where necessary. To support with the delivery of training and education of student placements as required by the department. To undertake prescribing responsibilities as an independent prescriber in line with the Trust’s Universal Scope of Practice for Pharmacist Independent Prescribing, Standard Operating Procedures, and Clinical Guidelines, or within a defined specialist prescribing scope formally approved through the Medicines Policy and Practice Committee, ensuring safe and effective prescribing practice at all times.
