The Night Nurse Practitioner will lead and support the Hospital at Night team through clinical expertise, professional advice, guidance and education.

The role will be responsible for the co-ordination, delivery and implementation of advanced clinical support to the Hospital at Night team, including the medical staff on the team overnight and the staff working in all areas of the hospital.

The role also includes carrying the Hospital Bleep, managing site safety, working with the Clinical Site Management team, and overseeing Capacity Management by ensuring patients are moved safely from the Emergency Department / AMU / MDU and, when necessary, across the hospital.

Line manager for a team, including responsibilities for own staff for appraisals, sickness management, disciplinary and grievance matters, recruitment, development and workload.

The post holder will serve as a shift leader with direct responsibility for management, supervision and support of junior members of the Hospital at Night team and for managing ad‑hoc situations and incident escalation.

Responsibilities

• Allocate clinical tasks to the Hospital at Night team using the Ha N bleep system and ensure timely assessments by the most appropriate practitioner.
• Carry the Hospital Bleep, ensuring adequate staffing and handling unusual situations that may arise at the site.
• Manage capacity and safe patient movement from the Emergency Department, AMU, MDU, and throughout the hospital during night shifts.
• Make decisions regarding patient safety incidents, HR‑related matters, complaints and staff conflict, escalating appropriately to the clinical site manager.
• Support medical staff on the night team and provide senior nursing intervention during ward emergencies.
• Perform advanced clinical assessment of patients and deliver complex nursing interventions.
• Identify and assess complex clinical and non‑clinical issues, implement solutions and audit outcomes.
• Organise cross‑departmental activities including HR, resource planning and bleep‑holder duties.
• Demonstrate technical and practical skills for optimal patient management, including patient monitoring, equipment management and administration of invasive tests and procedures.
• Develop and educate staff through supervision, mentorship and appraisal.
• Ensure accurate use of IT systems for patient, workforce and resource data.
• Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring varying levels of effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.
• Support patients, carers and staff during difficult situations such as delivering bad news or responding to unexpected events.
• Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy to protect staff and users from hazards.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control.

Qualifications

Successful applicants must provide an immunisation and vaccination report, either from their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
