Clinical Scientist Radiology Physics | University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust
Radiology Physics provides specialist clinical and non-clinical scientific and technical services in diagnostic radiology physics and the ionising radiation protection of patients, staff and the general public to the Trust and to client health care organisations throughout the region.
Applications are invited for this full time post in Radiology Physics.
Suitable candidates will preferably have attained HCPC registration, however candidates who are close to achieving state registration will also be considered for appointment at a lower grade in the first instance.
Please be advised that a trainee candidate will be considered if a successful band 7 candidate is not appointed.
If appointed as a traineeyou will be paid at 60% of Band 7 salary (Annex 21) until in competencies are achieved.
This would be expected to take up to 4 years.
A full UK driving license is essential for this role. Please note that an international driving license is not accepted.
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupationalhealth provider or their UK GP.
The successful candidate will join a team of Clinical Scientists and Technicians led by a Consultant Clinical Scientist.
The post holder would be involved in our diagnostic x-ray quality assurance programme and support radiation protection across x-ray, nuclear medicine, and external beam radiotherapy.
The role will also involve teaching, patient dose measurement, protection surveys and research.

- Undertake evaluation tests, commissioning tests and quality control measurements on a wide range of x-ray equipment, to ensure that it is safe to use on patients and is capable of providing the required clinical information.
Provide written reports and advice to radiology managers, radiographers, radiologists and others.
Liaise with manufacturers’ representatives where necessary.
- Undertake the assessment of patient dose and dose audits.
- To balance radiation dose and image quality, investigate reasons for unusual patient images or equipment faults and determine the best course of action.
To consider different procedures and how they will affect the patient.
To assist with the resolution of any problems that may arise.
- Assist in providing scientific and technical support to radiology departments, Radiology Managers and other users of x-ray equipment, including matters such as compliance with the regulations and equipment specifications and procurement of high capital value complex clinical equipment.
