Antenatal Ward Manager | University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust

We are looking for an experienced Midwife who is passionate about antenatal care, high profile, accessible and a responsive leader with patient, staff, service and resource responsibility.

The postholder will encourage team working, organise others in their actions and set priorities, objectives and goals and will be able to make proactive evidence-based decisions within their scope of professional practice.

You will be expected to lead a team, organise and achieve outlined objectives and goals set within the UHCW vision.

Within the management role you will be required to manage a roster, budget, sickness, appraisals and quality improvement projects.

The postholder will be proficient in demonstrating strong leadership skills.

Facing many competing demands and be expected to exercise excellent judgement in dealing with both clinical and managerial challenges.

The post holder will be required to work closely with other ward managers, Matrons, Labour Ward Coordinators and the multi-disciplinary team.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

• The Ward Manager post will focus on the day to day operational management and leadership for the staff and services provided on the Antenatal Ward.

The postholder will be expected to maintain clinical expertise, undertaking Band 7 duties in line with the needs of the service and be required to work clinical as required.

• Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct.

Will contribute to corporate objectives, and performance targets, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.

• Highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations.

Undertake bleep-holder and on call responsibilities for the maternity unit on a regular basis.

• A knowledgeable leader and resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.

Will support staff and users in service and policy development within a defined area/specialty.

• Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes.
• Responsible for interdepartmental/organisational activities including HR; budget management; complaints.
• Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including; complex patient monitoring; equipment management and administration of invasive tests/procedures.
• Responsible for education and development of staff and service in an identified area through appraisal and business planning cycles.
• Utilise and ensure others utilise information and IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data available.
• Regularly manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.
