Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust welcomes applicants to apply for this Substantive consultant post in Ophthalmology with special interest in Paediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus and Cataract.
This is a full time post within the Ophthalmology service.
Management of general and complex paediatric ophthalmology cases, including screening and treatment of ROP, would be expected.
We have a close working relationship with ophthalmology subspecialties and other medical specialties to provide support with management of other secondary conditions.
The role will also be job planned to session in the Ophthalmic emergency department located at The Western eye hospital and a weekly adult cataract training list.
Adult motility cases are done on this list as required.
The post offers an exciting opportunity for an energetic and innovative person to join the ophthalmic service for the UK's first Academic Health Science Centre and the largest trust in the country.
The post holder will be involved in
- Outpatient and inpatient care of general and complex paediatric patients.
- Undertaking ROP screening and treatment at Queen Charlotte & Chelsea Hospital
- Undertaking A&E sessions at the Western Eye Hospital.
- Undertaking Adult Cataract lists and Adult motility clinic and list.
- To maintain good communication with GP, optometrists, hospital clinicians and other allied professionals
- To provide teaching to medical students, other junior doctors, optometrists, nurses
- To assist in academic and pharmaceutical research activities within the department
- To assist in the management and development of the clinical service

To provide clinical expertise in line with agreed job plan.
This will include specialist paediatric work in clinic and neonatal unit for retinopathy of prematurity, adult motility and cataract surgery.
You will be responsible for the patients under your care which includes those being seen by your team.
The post will include working with the whole team and the wider department and being available for internal as well as external referrals.
The post will include an eye emergency department session depending on job plan and training route.
There might be a need to cover other sessions on an ad hoc basis depending on the needs of the department.
There is a requirement to keep up to date with ophthalmic practice.
The post holder will be expected to abide by the GMC good medical practice guidelines.
