We’re looking for experienced Construction Project Managers to lead the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of construction projects across the UK. This includes new build schemes, refurbishments, building engineering services upgrades, fabric improvements, and energy/environmental initiatives. You will manage the full project lifecycle from inception and design through procurement, construction, and handover, ensuring projects are delivered safely on time and on budget and to the highest standard.

This is a hands-on role that supports our strategy to increase in-house capability, insource key delivery activities, and achieve better value across our estate. A full UK driving licence is required.

The Role

  • Lead and be accountable for the end-to-end delivery of construction projects (capital and major opex), covering all relevant RIBA stages.
  • Drive projects to achieve cost, programme, quality, scope, and safety objectives in line with the organisation’s operating system and governance frameworks.
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams of internal specialists and external contractors, ensuring high performance, collaboration, and value.
  • Oversee design development, pricing, tendering, value engineering, construction delivery, practical completion, and handover.
  • Implement robust project and programme management tools, governance structures, and performance controls.
  • Track and report project progress to stakeholders, including financials, safety metrics, risks, and overall project status.
  • Work closely with Commercial Management to maintain accurate budgets, validate cost information, and manage spend within delegated limits.
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory, regulatory, and organisational requirements, including CDM 2015, H&S legislation, CAR2012, and P3M.
  • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders (including Legal, Technology, Operations, Procurement, and Security) and external partners.
  • Influence and negotiate with stakeholders on risks, scope changes, and competing priorities.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for value engineering, insourcing, and improved delivery approaches.
  • Support forecasting processes for building fabric and engineering programmes, helping shape future investment plans.
  • Provide occasional regional cover in support of the Construction Programme Manager.
  • Responsible for cross-functional project teams of up to 20 people.

About You

  • Experience as a Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager in a similar role.
  • A strong track record of delivering property-related projects (building fabric, M&E or estate).
  • Proven experience managing a portfolio of projects in a client-side or customer-focused environment.
  • Demonstrable experience leading internal and external teams.
  • Practical knowledge of building surveying and/or building services engineering.
  • Experience preparing scopes, specifications, tender documentation, and evaluating bids.
  • Knowledge of JCT contract administration.
  • Strong programme and project management skills, with the ability to manage complex, multistakeholder delivery environments.
  • A clear understanding of value for money principles and experience identifying opportunities for insourcing and in-house capability development.
  • The ability to innovate, challenge assumptions, and apply value engineering techniques.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across technical, commercial, and operational stakeholders.

Qualifications (desirable, not essential)

  • Chartered status with a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, ICE, CIOB, CIBSE, IET).
  • Recognised project management qualification (e.g., APM, PMQ).
  • CSCS card or successful completion of the Construction Skills H&S test.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate.
