The Morecambe Bay Respiratory Network in conjunction with the Community Respiratory Service, have secured funding until March 2027, to continue running a number of new services across Morecambe Bay, including (but not limited to) Pulmonary rehabilitation and specialist home rehabilitation and support, for people with respiratory disease living with high symptom burden who are at high risk of deterioration and urgent care use.

We require a full time administrator to support (primarily) the running of Pulmonary rehabilitation and general office duties in Barrow and Kendal. This is a temporary contract (pending a recurrent funding decision in 2027). This time limited post would be ideal for an experienced NHS administrator, with existing knowledge of NHS systems and patient customer service skills.

Main duties of the role are outlined in the attached job description, but to support the PR programme delivery you will be expected to:

  • Phone patients to discuss and explain the PR programme and arrange appointments
  • Dealing with patients in a kind, respectful and sensitive manner when they contact the team (including people who are breathless and in distress)
  • Work with our clinical team to prepare and replenish assessment and class paperwork
  • Scanning of clinical paperwork onto EMIS web clinical system
  • Ordering of supplies
  • Attendance at meetings and support of minute taking as required

Our Community Respiratory Team has 3 main offices in Lancaster, Kendal & Barrow (not on hospital grounds) and our team provide care across the whole of Morecambe Bay.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
