Meet Charlie. Charlie is a 14-year-old boy who lives in the Coatbridge area. He is a fun-loving, caring, friendly and funny young boy who loves to live his life to the fullest. Charlie values time spent with his family, and he enjoys spending his time out and about.
A typical day for Charlie when at home includes listening to music and picking his ‘song of the day’. Charlie enjoys playing with his toys, especially his car collection, playing with technical gadgets such as VR, tablets or just chilling on his phone. Charlie also loves to visit places such as the bowling alley to play arcade games, Science Centre, and Aquariums or go to the local swing parks.
The Role
As Charlie’s Personal Assistant you will be required to provide one-to-one care that promotes independence, dignity, safety, wellbeing and support within his home and local community. Charlie has a physical and learning disability and uses a wheelchair. At times Charlie also uses a walking frame with a prosthetic leg to support him, so the role will involve supporting his mobility and ensuring that he can safely access the community and activities he enjoys.
Duties would involve assisting with tasks such as:
- Attending to personal care needs (toileting including bowel movements)
- Preparing meals and healthy snacks as a blended diet
- Moving and assisting with a walking frame and prosthetic leg
- Activities within the home playing musical instruments, listening to music, playing in the garden or playhouse
- Visiting the Science Centre, Aquariums, Bowling Alley to play arcade games or playing in the local swing parks
- Any other daily living tasks to promote independent living
Working Hours
This role involves 7 hours per week on a permanent basis at £14.00 per hour. Typical shifts look like:
- Monday: 3:30pm – 7:00pm
- Or Saturday: 9:00am – 4:00pm
However, the days of the week are negotiable and can be discussed during the interview.
About You
Charlie is looking for someone who is friendly, relaxed and has good interpersonal and communication skills as he is non-verbal. Some knowledge of how to play musical instruments would be desirable but not essential.

Employment Information
This role is subject to a PVG check (Protecting Vulnerable Groups). References will be required. Training will be provided where necessary. You will be employed directly by an individual/family via Self-Directed Support funding.
