An exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Nuclear Medicine Physicist to join a dynamic team providing physics support to St. George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust within the GESH hospital group and at contracted sites.

The Nuclear Medicine department has two Siemens Intevo SPECT/CTs, one Siemens Symbia SPECT, two gamma counters and multiple gamma probes. A radioiodine therapy service is managed and delivered by Physics, additionally support to external departments and support to a fleet of PET/CT mobiles. The department is an avid trainer of STP trainees and you will have the opportunity to actively contribute to training.

The role would suit a recent STP graduate or those nearing completion or imminently due to obtain HCPC registration. This post holder works as part of a team providing Medical Physics support to the Nuclear Medicine Department as part of the Nuclear Medicine Physics Group.

The postholder provides specialised clinical scientific, technical and computing support to diagnostic and therapy services in the Nuclear Medicine Department. Direct patient contact is through the administration of radionuclide therapy and giving individual radiation protection advice.

The postholder will support other scientific staff in the provision of a Medical Physics service to external sites. This includes nuclear medicine and PET‑CT services at both mobile and fixed site facilities. This involves performing calibrations and quality assurance, developing clinical imaging protocols, optimisation and service development and research projects.

With nearly 9,000 dedicated staff caring for patients around the clock, St. George’s is the largest healthcare provider in southwest London. The main site, St George’s Hospital in Tooting – one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals – is shared with St George’s, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research.

St George’s Hospital also hosts the St George’s, University of London and Kingston University Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences, which is responsible for training a wide range of healthcare professionals from across the region. As well as acute hospital services, a wide variety of specialist care services are provided and a full range of community services to patients of all ages following integration with Community Services Wandsworth in 2010.

St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of 1.3 million across southwest London. A large number of services, such as cardiothoracic medicine and surgery, neurosciences and renal transplantation, also cover significant populations from Surrey and Sussex, totalling around 3.5 million people. The trust also provides care for patients from a larger catchment area in southeast England, for specialties such as complex pelvic trauma. Other services treat patients from all over the country, such as family HIV care and bone marrow transplantation for non-cancer diseases.
