Sister/Charge Nurse - Cardiology | Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Chorley

In this role, you’ll work closely with the Unit Manager to maintain and build upon the high standards of care and patient safety that our team is proud to deliver. Your leadership and clinical expertise will be key in ensuring that every patient receives safe, timely, and compassionate care. In addition, you’ll support the Unit Manager with a range of leadership and management responsibilities, helping to foster a positive team culture, coordinate service delivery, and ensure the smooth running of the unit. Your contribution will help drive excellence across both clinical and operational aspects of the service.

• Work closely with ward managers to maintain and improve high standards of care and patient safety.
• Lead from the front as a Band 6, providing leadership during shifts.
• Coordinate the shift, ensuring smooth operations and patient flow.
• Attend ward rounds and actively participate in patient care discussions.
• Liaise with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure collaborative care.
• Support staff wellbeing and development, offering guidance and mentorship.
• Assist the ward manager with leadership and management responsibilities, including fostering a positive team culture and ensuring the smooth running of the unit.
• Drive excellence in clinical and operational aspects of the service.

Support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse or Matron in ensuring the provision of excellent care with compassion for the patients, relatives, and visitors who are cared for within or by the ward, department, service, or team. Ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence-based guidelines.

Assist and support the Ward Manager in the safe, effective management of the area, including management of personnel, facilities, and the associated systems and processes. Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team, and the organisation. Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation, and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff.

Set, monitor, and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome. Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety, and security legislation, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting, and meeting the needs and choices of individuals. Ensure the environment of care is safe, well-equipped, and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.

Where there are difficult to fill roles, solutions are found to ensure the department has sustainable staffing structures at substantive spend, which may be achieved through different marketing solutions.

To participate in education and training of junior staff. Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within the scope of role and professional practice.
