Clinical Research Nurse / Clinical Research Practitioner
Job Description Job Title: Clinical Research Nurse / Clinical Research Practitioner Reports to: Senior Clinical Research Nurse Accountable to: Clinical Research Lead
Job Summary
The post holder will work as part of the Research Team to support the delivery of high-quality clinical research within Rowden Medical Partnership.
They will contribute to the successful delivery of a portfolio of clinical studies across a range of specialities, including diabetes, cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, vaccines, mental health and community-based care.
The post holder will support participants throughout their research journey, ensuring safe, compassionate and effective care in line with approved study protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), research governance requirements and practice procedures.
The role will involve identifying and recruiting eligible participants, conducting study visits, supporting clinical assessments, collecting samples where required, maintaining accurate research documentation and contributing to the successful delivery of research studies.
Key Responsibilities
- Participant Care and Study Delivery
- Support the set-up and delivery of clinical research studies.
- Identify, screen and recruit suitable participants using approved methods.
- Conduct study visits in accordance with research protocols and delegated responsibilities.
- Provide information, advice and support to participants and their families throughout their involvement in research.
- Coordinate participant appointments, follow-up activities and study requirements.
- Liaise with GPs, healthcare professionals and external organisations to support safe participant care.
- Research Coordination and Data Management
- Support multiple research studies and manage delegated study tasks.
- Maintain accurate and timely research records, source documentation and electronic databases.
- Ensure data collection is completed in line with study protocols, confidentiality requirements and regulatory standards.
- Support monitoring visits, audits and inspections when required.
- Assist with study-related administration, sample processing and logistics.
- Clinical Responsibilities
- Undertake clinical procedures appropriate to the role and level of competence, including sample collection where required.
- Ensure infection prevention and control procedures are followed.
- Maintain oversight of study equipment, medication and supplies where applicable.
- Recognise and expedite participant safety concerns, protocol deviations, risks or issues affecting study delivery.
- Communication and Team Working
- Work collaboratively with the Research Team, GPs, healthcare colleagues, patients and external research partners.
- Provide regular updates regarding recruitment activity, study progress and outstanding actions.
- Attend relevant meetings and contribute to the development of research services.
- Promote research opportunities amongst clinicians, patients and the wider practice team.
- Professional Development and Governance
- Maintain current knowledge of research governance, ethics and regulatory requirements.
- Complete Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training and study-specific training as required.
- Participate in appraisal and continuing professional development activities.
- Work in accordance with practice policies, NHS guidance, research regulations and confidentiality requirements.

Person Specification Essential
- Registered Nurse qualification or completion of Clinical Research Practitioner competencies.
- Experience of working in a clinical or patient-facing healthcare environment.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
- Experience using electronic systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
- Experience working within a research environment.
- Current Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification.
- Experience using Systm One or other electronic patient record systems.
- Experience of clinical procedures including venepuncture.
- Experience supporting monitoring visits, audits or inspections.
