KCHT Dental Services are a high profile, dynamic provider of NHS dental services across East Kent and London. Our philosophy is to keep the patient at the heart of everything we do. Every person that works for our Service, regardless of their role, comes into contact with our patients and visitors and so is expected to uphold our values, lead and collaborate through partnership working and strive for excellence at all times. We look for people who are willing to go the extra mile, not because they are asked to, but because they are committed to being part of a healthcare team that delivers an excellent caring service to our patients.
We are currently looking for an experienced Dental Therapist to support the delivery of the National Supervised Toothbrushing programme, ensuring the focus remains firmly on quality and safety. You will act as an ambassador for the Service, promoting the highest standards of excellence in working practices. You will employ a cohesive team approach, developing and strengthening partnership working both internally and externally.
You will need to be able to work in a very busy environment whilst remaining calm and be able to deliver services effectively through challenging situations, so the ability to work independently, proactively and under pressure is important. A positive attitude, excellent clinical skills and a commitment to best practice in clinical care and continued professional development is essential.
To deliver all aspects of Oral Health Promotion (OHP) programmes as required by the Service in line with service specifications. The Outreach Dental Therapist will be required to oversee and provide a bespoke programme of evidence-based oral health improvement interventions and training informed by national and local strategies across NE London to targeted groups by direct action and by working in tandem with and providing direct line supervision to Dental Therapists and Extended Duties Dental Nurses.
These interventions will include but are not limited to: the fluoride varnish programme, the supervised toothbrushing programme and training other health and social care professionals on oral health. It will also include participation in epidemiology fieldwork.
Please note, this vacancy does not meet the criteria for skilled worker sponsorship and therefore, we are unable to accept applications from candidates that cannot provide documentary evidence of right to work in the United Kingdom.
Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust is due to integrate with Medway Community Healthcare on 1 October 2026. Following integration and to align our community services to the new Neighbourhood Model of care delivery, there will be a period of consultation which may result in changes affecting some services, teams or roles. Depending on the area you are applying to work in, this could include potential changes to your role, work base, reporting arrangements, or terms and conditions of employment. Any changes would be subject to consultation and managed sensitively and in line with relevant employment processes. Please do contact the recruiting manager if you have any concerns about this so they can answer any questions you might have.
