A 73-year-old lady with physical disabilities and a good sense of humour is looking for a carer/PA to provide support at home. I am looking for someone to cover tea-time visits from 5pm to 6pm, Monday through to Sunday every week. During these visits, you will help with light cooking, preparing a snack for later, assisting me with my medication, and helping me to bed. In addition, I require three hours of support on Tuesday mornings to assist with personal care and general household tasks. The role is varied and no two days are the same.

Duties may include:

  • Helping with personal care
  • Changing beds
  • Keeping hygiene areas clean
  • Light cleaning such as hoovering
  • Preparing simple meals or sandwiches
  • Collecting prescriptions
  • Visiting the post office
  • Occasionally accompanying me to hospital appointments

I am a positive and chatty person who enjoys good conversation, although there may be quieter days when I need to rest while you carry out tasks. It would be helpful if you have experience supporting someone with complex physical health needs and feel confident responding calmly and appropriately in an emergency situation. You must be a dog lover, as I have a small dog who is my companion. As I am not on a bus route at this time of day, being a car driver is essential.

Duties include:

  • Medication prompting/administering
  • Other relevant duties as required
  • Cooking
  • Taking daily observations, blood pressure, oxygen, pulse, and temperature (training can be provided if necessary)

Candidate qualities:

  • Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
  • Reliable with good timekeeping
  • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • Hygienic, tidy and well organised
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
  • Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Honest and cheerful
  • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
  • Able to always work to high standards of health & safety

All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required.

How to prepare for a job interview at Allscreens Nationwide Ltd

Showcase Your Specialisation

Make sure to highlight any specific areas of patient care you excel in, such as geriatric care, paediatrics, or wound management. Freelancing in nursing means clients will want to know how your skills can directly benefit their patients, so bring any relevant certifications or experiences to the table.

Bring Your Portfolio of Success

Since it’s freelance work, you should present a portfolio that includes case studies, positive patient feedback, or evidence of your outcomes. This will help demonstrate your previous success and patient satisfaction levels, giving potential clients confidence in your skills.

Prepare for Scenario-Based Questions

Expect interviewers to throw some real-world patient scenarios at you. These might test your clinical judgement and decision-making skills. Brush up on your clinical protocols and be ready to explain how you’d handle specific situations – this is where our hands-on experience will shine.

Discuss Flexibility and Availability

As a freelancer, you’ll need to navigate different schedules and patient needs. Be prepared to discuss your availability and how you can adjust to accommodate client schedules while ensuring consistent, high-quality care. This shows that you’re not only skilled but also reliable and adaptable.
