The sport and leisure team at Chesterfield Borough Council is looking to recruit a part-time swimming instructor to deliver its learn-to-swim programme at Queens Park Sports Centre and The Healthy Living Centre.
Why work for us? We accommodate almost 2,500 children to learn to swim each week at both our centres. Our programme is one of the biggest and most successful in the region. Teaching and developing swimming as an essential life skill is core to our programme. Through award-winning initiatives such as Outswimming Cancer and our volunteer programme, we create opportunities for our communities and staff that have enabled us to develop a strong programme.
The service is recruiting to a four hour vacancy worked on Mondays from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and Wednesdays from 9.30am to 11.30am. Candidates should be qualified to Swim England Level 2, although Level 1 is acceptable with a commitment to train to level 2 within an agreed timescale.
We expect our swimming teachers to show a degree of flexibility to meet customer demand within the opening hours of the service where new opportunities are identified. The posts require regular unsocial hours working, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, involving services provided at all council sports and leisure venues within the borough.
We expect an innovative and high-quality teaching service to be delivered to meet a wide range of customers and specific needs, from learning to swim to stroke technique, and initiatives such as flip and fun schemes. One-on-one lessons are also provided at both sports centres.
All team members will be expected to provide support to the service, covering colleague absences for training and holidays, and so on. Regular training will be provided and attendance at planned swimming teacher meetings throughout the year.
You must hold a current National Pool Lifeguard Award or National Rescue Award for swimming teachers and coaches. We will support you to continue on-going CPD linked to the Swim England National Teaching Plan and framework.
We pride ourselves on paying a very competitive salary through applying a market supplement, giving further support to our staff, and maintaining consistency across the programme. The successful candidates will be subject to a disclosure carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
