About the role

This is a people leadership role first and foremost. You will lead and manage a team of gas engineers, supported by a planner and administrator, ensuring they are supported, motivated and performing at their best. You will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership, performance and wellbeing of your team, creating a positive working environment and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused services.

Key responsibilities

  • Drive a high-performance culture by recognising achievement and addressing performance issues constructively.
  • Lead workforce planning, recruitment, succession planning and retention initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with HR, Trade Unions and wider service teams to resolve issues and improve service delivery.
  • Manage staffing budgets and ensure value for money.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, modernisation projects and the use of digital tools to enhance productivity and service quality.
  • Monitor and report on service performance, compliance and operational outcomes, including engagement with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the workforce, ensuring services are delivered safely, compliantly and to the required standard.

About you

We are looking for someone who is passionate about leading and developing people and who can create a supportive, inclusive and high-performing team culture. You will:

  • Have strong people management and leadership experience, ideally within a trades, maintenance or operational environment.
  • Be confident in managing performance, supporting employee wellbeing and conducting open and constructive conversations.
  • Be able to plan, prioritise and manage competing demands effectively within a busy service environment.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Have a proactive, solution-focused approach and the confidence to make informed decisions.
  • Be committed to delivering excellent customer service and continuous improvement.
  • You will also bring a strong understanding of gas compliance, repairs and maintenance services, enabling you to effectively support and guide your team.
