An exciting opportunity has arisen within housing property services as part of the service reshape programme. We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our mechanical and electrical team as a gas technical manager. This is a key technical role, providing specialist expertise, assurance and operational support across gas repairs, servicing, compliance and capital programmes within the council's housing stock and corporate buildings.
About the role
As the gas technical manager, you will act as the council's technical expert for domestic and commercial gas systems, ensuring all work is delivered safely, efficiently and in full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. Working closely with the mechanical and electrical operations manager, you will play a vital role in maintaining high standards of gas safety, compliance and service delivery while supporting an extensive programme of repairs, servicing and heating upgrades.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide technical advice, guidance and oversight to gas engineers across domestic and commercial services.
- Carry out technical inspections, audits and quality assurance checks to ensure all work meets required standards.
- Act as the final technical decision-maker on complex issues involving engineers, contractors and service delivery challenges.
- Ensure compliance with gas safety (installation and use) regulations, landlord obligations and industry standards.
- Support the delivery of gas servicing programmes, repairs, solid fuel servicing, commercial gas works and heating upgrades.
- Monitor and improve service quality, identify risks and implement corrective actions.
- Lead on the interpretation of new legislation and support the development of internal policies and procedures.
- Deliver toolbox talks, technical briefings and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Support long-term asset planning and gas safety strategy, including heating systems and emerging technologies.
- Contribute to performance monitoring, compliance reporting and budget management.
- Deputise for the M and E operations manager when required, including undertaking Gas Safe duty holder responsibilities.
This is a varied and highly responsible role requiring strong technical expertise, sound judgement and the ability to influence and support teams across the service.
