The Museum of Chelmsford is entering an exciting new chapter. We're reimagining what a museum can be: a cultural hub shaped by the communities it serves, where stories are co-created and people see themselves reflected in what's on show. We're looking for an ambitious and inspiring Museum Manager to lead this transformation.
Our Cultural Strategy sets out a vision for a culturally ambitious place that connects heritage, wellbeing, environment and creativity to transform people's lives. The Museum has a central role to play in delivering that vision. If you're ready to help shape the future of history in Chelmsford, we'd love to hear from you!
This is a significant leadership role, with real scope to shape one of Chelmsford's key cultural assets as it grows. The successful applicant will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Museum, guiding its development as a visitor destination, community asset and cultural leader.
The post holder will lead a talented team, oversee collections, exhibitions and learning programmes, develop commercial opportunities, build new partnerships and help deliver a bold vision that places the Museum at the centre of Chelmsford's cultural future.
The successful applicant should possess significant leadership experience within a museum, heritage, cultural or visitor attraction setting, with a track record of leading teams through change and improvement. The post holder will have experience of developing partnerships and engaging communities, alongside commercial awareness and experience of growing income.
The successful applicant will combine strong strategic thinking with a practical approach to delivery, demonstrate a passion for inclusion, participation and audience development.
