Ensure the department is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness in a hygienic and tidy manner. To carry out duties that facilitates an effective and efficient service.
Deliver catering commodities to wards and departments as requested, whilst observing the departmental dress code and Uniform Policy.
Assist the catering Storekeeper with the general running of the main catering stores as and when requested and cover the post occasionally.
To observe and adhere to all Trust and Departmental policies, procedures and Standing Financial Instructions.
Observe the Trust’s Health and Safety Policy at all times.
Complete cleaning duties as identified in the respective schedules, following COSHH guidelines.
Observe all PPE (Protective Personal Equipment) guidelines during all tasks.
Dispose of all waste in the correct waste streams (i. e. recycling) as identified in the Trust’s Waste Policy
Maintain the kitchens and associated areas in a clean and hygienic manner.
- Report any defects immediately to the line/duty supervisor
- Report any suspected or actual pest control issue immediately to the duty/line supervisor
- Attend training sessions and departmental meetings as and when required
Be flexible to other duties, appropriate to the grade that will facilitate the smooth running of the kitchen and associated areas
The post holder may be required to visit the wards on a regular basis to promote good customer/patient relations.
To participate fully in the review and development of services to improve both quality and efficiency.

- Ensure that foods for all patient catering areas are prepared in scope agreed with the Catering Manager and Deputy Catering Manager and food hygiene legislation.
- Ensure that all foods are correctly displayed and kept at the correct temperature with the date labels clearly displayed.
- Ensure that high standards of hygiene are maintained at all times in areas as of direct control.
- Ensure portion control and correct storage methods are followed to avoid wastage.
- Ensure that the patient catering areas are clean, tidy at all times.
- Ensure that the restaurant is well stocked with cutlery, serviettes etc at all times.
- Ensure that no cleaning chemicals are left in reach of the visitors and patients.
- Ensure that food is prepared and served promptly.
- To carry out some cooking duties as dictated by shift requirements.
