About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and driven
SHEQ Advisor to support our Non-Hazardous Waste operations across Northern Ireland.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced health, safety, environmental and quality professional to play a key role in ensuring compliance, driving continuous improvement and promoting a positive safety culture across multiple operational sites.
Working closely with the SHEQ Manager, you will support the development and implementation of effective SHEQ systems, processes and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards and ISO accreditations.
You will work closely with operational teams, providing guidance and practical support to maintain high standards of safety, quality and environmental performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend and actively participate in weekly SHEQ huddles, tracking actions and driving improvements.
- Conduct regular site inspections across operational depots and facilities, monitoring compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
- Identify, report and follow up on non-conformances, hazards and improvement opportunities.
- Monitor and audit internal and external inspections, statutory testing programmes and equipment compliance.
- Maintain structured SHEQ documentation and filing systems.
- Plan, coordinate and support internal and external audits, inspections and accreditation activities.
- Conduct internal audits against relevant ISO standards and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Maintain compliance and inspection readiness matrices across assigned sites.
- Monitor SHEQ KPIs and support performance reporting.
- Assist with incident, accident and near miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and safety communications.
- Support the review and continuous improvement of SHEQ policies, procedures and management systems.
- Assist management teams with the development and review of risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Support contractor approval processes, contractor audits and performance reviews.
- Manage PPE requirements, inspections and associated compliance activities, including RPE and face fit testing.
- Coordinate SHEQ training requirements and deliver training where required.
- Participate in external inspections and liaise with regulatory bodies, auditors and client representatives.
- Promote employee consultation and engagement on SHEQ matters.
- Carry out additional SHEQ duties as required to support operational and business needs.
- Candidate Requirements
- NEBOSH General Certificate or IOSH Managing Safely (with a willingness to achieve NEBOSH General Certificate within the first year).
- Experience within an operational health and safety role.
- Experience completing risk assessments and developing procedural documentation.
- Knowledge of incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis.
- Good understanding of current health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Practical auditing and inspection experience.
- Experience delivering training to employees at all levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Analytical and solution-focused approach.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams.
- Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel regularly between sites.
- Experience working within the waste sector.
- Experience from manufacturing, construction, oil & gas, fuel or similar operational environments.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Strong stakeholder management and conflict resolution skills.
- Full-time role based in Carryduff.
- Regular travel to operational facilities in Carryduff and Downpatrick.
- 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Regular exposure to industrial environments, including noise, dust and heavy machinery.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided.
