We are seeking a skilled and motivated Carpentry Technician to join our Construction Department.
Working alongside our Carpentry Lecturer, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality practical teaching and learning for students studying carpentry, joinery, and related construction programmes.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced carpentry professional who enjoys sharing their knowledge and contributing to the development of the next generation of skilled craftspeople.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare workshops, tools, equipment, timber, and materials for practical lessons.
- Support lecturers during practical training sessions, ensuring students work safely and effectively.
- Maintain carpentry and joinery workshops to a high standard, ensuring machinery, tools, and equipment are clean, serviced, and ready for use.
- Carry out routine maintenance of workshop equipment and ensure all tools are safe, secure, and fit for purpose.
- Monitor, organise, and replenish workshop materials, consumables, and stock.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, COSHH requirements, and college policies.
- Assist with setting up practical assessments, demonstrations, exhibitions, and college open events.
- Support learners by providing technical guidance under the direction of the lecturer.
- Contribute to creating a safe, organised, and engaging learning environment.
Person Specification
- Level 2 qualification in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent.
- Relevant industry experience in site carpentry, bench joinery, or a related construction discipline.
- Good knowledge of current carpentry practices, construction methods, and health and safety requirements.
- Experience using woodworking machinery, hand tools, and power tools safely.
- Good organisational, communication, and teamwork skills.
