We are looking for a kind, caring and enthusiastic Personal Assistant to support a happy, bubbly, non-verbal child who loves being outdoors, exploring and going on adventures. He particularly enjoys spending time in quieter outdoor spaces, such as parks, beaches and fields, where there are fewer people. When at home, he enjoys playing with small figures, watching his iPad, looking at books, singing and playing music. Every day is unique, and activities could include trips to attractions, garden centres, farm parks or other fun places, as well as spending quality time at home. Being positive, patient and enthusiastic is key to this position.
The child communicates largely through body language, stims and vocalisations. He thrives on routine and predictability and can find it difficult when things do not go according to plan. A key aim of the Personal Assistant role is to help build confidence and develop positive experiences in and around social settings, which can currently be challenging.
Personal Care & Support
Assistance with personal hygiene will be required. The child is doubly incontinent and wears pull-ups/pads at all times. He is encouraged to be as independent as possible but requires full support with personal care. He is able to walk and run independently but can struggle with longer distances and therefore requires the use of a wheelchair/buggy when needed. Constant supervision is essential to ensure his safety, with appropriate measures already in place to support the PA.
About You
- Kind, caring and empathetic
- Compassionate and considerate
- Patient and understanding
- Positive and enthusiastic
- Comfortable supporting a child with complex needs
- A good communicator with strong interpersonal skills
- Someone who enjoys making a positive difference
If you possess these qualities, you could be the perfect fit for this role. Previous experience working with children with complex medical needs and Autism is essential. A driving licence is essential with access to your own vehicle; mileage allowance will be paid. The family has a small dog, so you must be comfortable working around dogs.
Location
The role is based in the Carluke area, so you must be comfortable working locally.
Hours
6.5 hours per week, with flexibility around how these hours are arranged as long as agreed in advance. This role may particularly suit someone with additional flexibility during school holidays.
Rate
£14.45 per hour.
Recruitment Process
If you are selected for the next stage of the recruitment process, the private employer will contact you to arrange the next steps. Alternatively, a member of the GCIL (South Lanarkshire) team may contact you to arrange the next steps. If successfully appointed, you will be employed directly by the private employer on a PAYE basis and will be entitled to statutory employment rights, including paid holidays and statutory sick pay where eligible.
Please treat all information relating to the child and family as confidential.
