We are looking for a detail-driven and customer-focused Payroll & Benefits Administrator to join a busy HR team, supporting multiple business areas and providing wider benefits administration support across the organisation.
This is a newly created role, offering an exciting opportunity for someone to make the position their own, shape processes, and drive improvements to enhance payroll and benefits delivery.
You will play a key role in ensuring accurate, compliant and timely payroll and benefits administration while acting as a trusted point of contact for employees, managers and external providers.
Based in Cardiff, this temporary position is available until April 2027.
The role is 22.5 hours per week, offers a salary of £33,000, and operates on a hybrid basis with 40% office attendance required.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities Payroll Prepare documentation and complete system updates in an accurate and timely manner for multiple payrolls, for submission to a third-party payroll provider, including:
- New starters (HMRC New Starter Checklists and/or P45s)
- Changes to salary and allowances
- Leavers (including holiday pay, benefit recoveries, PILON and redundancy payments)
- Zero-hours and variable pay
- Bonus and incentive payments
- Overtime and on-call payments
- Unpaid leave and sickness
- Parental leave administration
- Statutory notifications and statutory payments
Additional responsibilities include
- Managing payroll checking processes and obtaining approvals prior to payroll finalisation
- Responding to and resolving payroll queries, escalating where required
- Supporting payroll audits by providing required data and documentation
- Employee Life cycle Manage payroll-related aspects of the employee life cycle, including:
- Payroll setup and benefits enrolment for new starters
- Processing leavers, including final pay calculations and benefits cessation
- Managing contractual changes affecting pay and benefits
- Maintaining accurate employee records across HR and payroll systems
- Benefits Administration Administer and promote employee benefit schemes, including:
- Benefits platforms
- Pension administration, including auto-enrolment compliance
- Salary sacrifice schemes and associated payroll deductions
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring timely processing of changes
- Acting as the first point of contact for employee benefit queries
- Supporting annual renewals and enrolment cycles
- Liaising with external providers to resolve issues and maintain service levels
- Supporting P11D and PSA data collection
- Additional Duties
- Processing third-party invoices
- Providing ad hoc HR administrative support to the wider HR team
Qualifications Essential
- Proven experience in payroll administration
- Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, National Insurance and statutory payments
- Experience administering employee benefits and pension schemes
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience using HR, payroll and benefits systems
- Payroll or HR qualification (e. g. Copp, CID)
- Experience supporting multiple business units or entities
- Experience using employee benefits platforms
