Your New Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Income Recovery Officer to join a busy, high-performing housing team on an interim basis.You'll be responsible for managing a varied rent arrears caseload, working proactively with residents to maximise rental income while supporting vulnerable customers to sustain their tenancies. This role offers a great balance of customer engagement, problem-solving and income recovery, giving you the opportunity to make a genuine difference whilst protecting vital rental income streams.Managing your own patch, you'll take ownership of cases from early intervention through to legal action where necessary, working closely with internal teams and external agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
What You'll Be Doing
- Managing a portfolio of rent arrears cases across a designated patch.
- Delivering effective early intervention and arrears prevention strategies.
- Negotiating realistic and sustainable repayment arrangements.
- Supporting customers affected by financial hardship, welfare reform and Universal Credit challenges.
- Liaising with Housing Benefit teams, the DWP and specialist support agencies.
- Conducting home visits and customer appointments where required.
- Progressing legal action and preparing supporting documentation where necessary.
- Identifying vulnerable residents and making appropriate referrals for support.
- Maintaining accurate records using housing management systems.
- Working towards income collection targets and reducing arrears levels across your patch.
What You'll Need To Succeed
- Previous experience working as an Income Recovery Officer, Income Officer, Rent Arrears Officer, Income Collection Officer or within a similar social housing income management role.
- Strong understanding of rent arrears recovery and tenancy sustainment.
- Knowledge of Universal Credit, Housing Benefit and welfare reform.
- Experience managing complex customer cases and negotiating payment arrangements.
- Excellent communication, organisational and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a busy caseload.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
