About the Role: As a Swimming Teacher for Bury Council Leisure, you'll be responsible for delivering high quality, safe and inspiring swimming lessons within a National framework helping swimmers of all ages and abilities to progress, build confidence and develop a lifelong love of the water. This is a role that combines expert technical knowledge with outstanding communication, genuine care for your pupils and a commitment to safety that never waivers. You'll work with an incredibly diverse range of swimmers, from young children taking their very first lesson to adults overcoming a fear of water; your ability to connect with, encourage and inspire them all will be what sets you apart. You'll be giving people a skill they'll carry with them for the rest of their lives and that's an extraordinary thing to do for a living.

What we’re looking for:

  • Evidence of continued CPD demonstrating a commitment to staying current and developing your practice.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of a National Teaching Framework.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of lesson planning and pupils' development.
  • Strong knowledge of pool safety procedures and their practical application.
  • Excellent customer care skills and a natural ability to connect with and inspire swimmers and their families.
  • Knowledge of stroke techniques and the advanced principles of teaching.

Safeguarding: This post involves working with children, young people and vulnerable adults. All successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and must be fully committed to safeguarding and always promoting welfare.

  • Real Investment in Your Development: We actively support your professional growth, from maintaining your qualifications to CPD opportunities, Governing Body updates and beyond. Whether you're looking to develop your specialism or progress into senior aquatics roles, we'll back your ambitions every step of the way.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS): Enjoy the security and peace of mind of one of the most competitive workplace pension schemes in the country, a hugely valuable benefit of working for a local authority.
  • Generous Annual Leave: Benefit from a competitive annual leave entitlement that increases with your length of service, giving you more time to rest, recharge and do the things you love.
  • Full Uniform Provided: Your complete uniform is provided so you're looking and feeling the part from your very first shift.
  • An Inclusive, Supportive Culture: We celebrate diversity and are genuinely committed to building a team that reflects the community we serve. We support flexible working where operationally possible and foster a culture where everyone feels valued and respected.
  • Work That Truly Matters: Every lesson you deliver, every swimmer you encourage and every child you help to take their first independent length, you're directly contributing to the safety, confidence and wellbeing of Bury's communities. That's not just a job. That's a vocation.

About Bury: The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment. Appointment may be subject to a satisfactory disclosure at the appropriate level under the Disclosure and Barring Service.
