Our Short Stay Unit (SSU) is a 38 bedded busy, multi-specialty facility, which is part of the emergency pathway. The unit offers a dedicated Multi-disciplinary Team including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, and a robust Medical Team. We receive patients from the Emergency Department, the Acute Medical Unit, Medical same day emergency care, and specialist clinics from within our hospital.

We pride ourselves on developing our staff, and you will be supported by our Departmental Clinical Education Sister. Dedicated training support enables us to provide you with an excellent induction, support with re-validation and ongoing training package. When you join us we will support you personally and professionally in achieving your individual career goals.

The ward sits within the acute medical pathway, and sees admissions from ED, the acute medical unit and the same day emergency care. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and effective day to day running of the unit.

Main duties of the job will include:

  • Ensuring both the patients and staff remain safe in the day to day running of the ward
  • Clinical leadership
  • Supporting and guiding junior members of staff
  • Mentoring, assessing, and guiding student nurses
  • Ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to at all times by staff
  • Great communication with all members of MDT
