Nature of the Job Role

The role will begin with building a positive and trusting relationship with the employer. The Personal Assistant will provide support with:

  • Supporting the employer to have regular breaks so that the PA can provide care and support.
  • Assisting with moving and handling, including helping the employer in and out of their wheelchair and bed.
  • Bringing and preparing food when required.
  • Reminding the employer to take medication.
  • Applying heat pads or cold packs when required.
  • Supporting with phone calls and emails.
  • Cooking and preparing meals.
  • Keeping the home clean and tidy for the employer.

Personal Duties

  • Hair washing.
  • Feeding the cats.
  • Being aware that the employer may sometimes experience meltdowns and providing appropriate support when this happens.

Domestic Duties

  • Cleaning the toilet.
  • Cleaning stains when Mum is not around.
  • Understanding and supporting the employer with their autism.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe home environment.

Social Duties

  • Taking the employer out of the apartment using their wheelchair or car when necessary, including going for walks or taking them out in the car.
  • Supporting the employer with shopping, including where digestive issues need to be considered.
  • Helping with sorting and removing unused clothes so that they can be sold.

Hours of Work

6 hours per week (To be discussed)

Skills & Experience

  • Experience or confidence with medication support.
  • Understanding of mobility needs and moving and handling.
  • Ability to understand and support an individual with autism.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Patient, reliable and caring approach.
  • Must have a valid driving licence and access to a car.
