An exciting full-time opportunity has become available within the Decontamination Hub on the Burnley General Hospital site. We are looking for someone that enjoys working within a busy day-to-day environment and likes to work as part of a team.

Decontamination technicians are required to work within the Hospital Decontamination Hub, comprising of the Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit (HSDU), Endoscopy Decontamination and the Laundry Department. You will be responsible for providing sterile surgical instruments, scopes, surgical supplies and clean laundry and linen. Our services are used by the Trust's many wards, departments and operating theatres. We also provide a service to external healthcare providers. These supplies are essential for good patient care.

The post holders will be based at the Burnley General Teaching Hospital (BGTH) sites for HSDU and Endoscopy decontamination. The HSDU operates on a four-week rota, Monday to Saturday between 6am and 10pm.

The department has a Quality Management System, work procedures and standard procedures. All work takes place to a high standard, quickly and accurately to meet the demands of operating theatres, wards and departments. Work takes place individually and as part of a team.

In the HSDU you will be responsible for assisting with the re-processing (includes receipting, cleaning and packing) of standard re-usable surgical instruments, medical devices, equipment and procedure packs. Endoscopy processing consists of receipt, pre-clean, decontaminating and packing endoscopes. In the Laundry, you will work on modern industrial machinery to wash, dry, press and fold hospital linen. In the Sterile Linen Unit, surgeon’s gowns, surgical drapes and wrap are washed, dried, inspected, folded and packed within a Clean Room.

You will take part in cross-site working as required to meet the needs of the service. Full training and support will be provided.

Please note, although this role is being advertised by East Lancashire Hospitals Trust, it will transfer to OneLSC, a Corporate Collaboration hosted by East Lancashire Hospitals Trust on 1.11.24. There are no plans to change the location of the role.
