Our client is seeking a Building Services Engineer with expertise in Pressure Systems, Medical Gases and LEV systems to join their Estates and Engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of critical mechanical assets, contribute to long-term asset strategies and ensure statutory compliance across a diverse estate.
Your new role
As a Building Services Engineer, you will act as the technical lead for a range of specialist mechanical systems, ensuring they are maintained, operated and managed safely, efficiently and in compliance with relevant legislation.
Key responsibilities will include
- Managing the planned maintenance and statutory compliance of Pressure Systems, Medical Gases, Air Compressors, Vacuum Pumps and LEV systems.
- Acting as the technical expert and appointed person for designated systems, including PSSR, Medical Gases and LEV.
- Managing specialist maintenance contractors, monitoring performance and ensuring KPI compliance.
- Developing asset management plans to support short, medium and long-term maintenance strategies.
- Project managing maintenance and asset replacement projects, including mechanical system upgrades and improvements.
- Conducting inspections, audits and compliance reviews to ensure systems remain safe and operational.
- Providing technical guidance and support to maintenance teams and stakeholders across the organisation.
- Investigating faults and identifying solutions to minimise downtime and operational risk.
- Supporting emergency response and planned out-of-hours engineering activities when required.
- What you'd need to succeed
To be successful in this position, you will ideally have experience managing specialist mechanical systems within a large estate, industrial environment, healthcare setting, university, manufacturing facility or similar complex operation.
You will also have
- A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent engineering qualification, or significant relevant industry experience.
- Strong working knowledge of PSSR, PESR, Medical Gas regulations and LEV/COSHH requirements.
- Experience managing specialist mechanical assets such as pressure systems, air compressors, pipework, vacuum systems and ventilation systems.
- Experience managing maintenance contractors and service providers.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities within complex mechanical systems.
- Experience preparing specifications, tender documentation and managing contract delivery.
- Knowledge of safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
- Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills.
- Professional engineering membership or qualifications.
- IOSH or NEBOSH certification.
- Experience working within higher education, healthcare, public sector or similarly regulated environments.
