As a Learning Support Assistant, you will support the team to provide essential learning and accessibility support to young people and adults with SEN. Your role includes facilitating access to and achievement of learning programmes, supporting students' use of all college services and activities, and facilitating personal development of learning/study skills and educational outcomes, including those relevant to individual EHCPs.
You will provide person‑centred learning support to students with severe and complex learning difficulties and/or disabilities. This may include supporting personal care where necessary. You may work with individuals or small groups, encouraging students to engage with activities or work independently.
You must have good literacy and numeracy skills and be able to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, teachers, parent/carers and other agencies. Experience of working in a multi‑cultural environment, understanding safeguarding and discrimination issues, and awareness of the difficulties faced by those with learning difficulties is essential.
You must be willing to assist learners with personal care and mobility, following their instructions on support needs. You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong organisational skills, good IT knowledge, and sound administration skills. Experience working with SEN learners in a secondary or FE environment is desirable.
