Responsibilities

• Deliver care to patients with mental health issues in an acute physical health setting, often on a 1:1 basis.
• Support all clinical areas of the Trust as and when required.
• Ensure that Trust and local policies and procedures are known and followed and that duties are carried out in accordance with the advisory guidelines and practice set out in the NMC code of Professional conduct.
• Assess, plan, provide, maintain and evaluate patient care.
• Supervise and guide other staff including health care assistants and students as required.
• Provide high‑standard evidence‑based nursing care and administer medication safely.
• Escalate concerns appropriately and report significant changes in a patient’s condition or situation to the multidisciplinary team.
• Advocate for patients with mental health concerns in an acute setting and promote parity of esteem.
• Support health promotion, provide education, advice, and appropriate referrals.
• Coordinate discharge planning in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.
• Perform admissions, assessments, and preparations for patients undergoing treatment or investigations.
• Escort patients to other wards or departments as required.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients, relatives and visitors.
• Ensure readiness and use of special equipment and nursing supplies in conjunction with senior ward nurses.
• Safeguard patient valuables and property according to Trust policies.
• Report complaints, incidents or accidents and complete relevant documentation according to Trust procedure.
• Handle damaged equipment reporting and documentation responsibilities.
• Apply and enforce manual handling regulations essential for moving and handling patients.
• Act in emergency situations, familiar with emergency procedures including fire and resuscitation and support junior staff accordingly.

Qualifications

• Registered Mental Health Nurse with current NMC licence to practice.
• Minimum of 12 months post‑qualification experience (15 months for NQN's – 3 months preceptorship followed by 12 months acute experience).
• Recent acute hospital experience within the last 18–24 months.
• Strong drive, enthusiasm and ability to commit to a 4‑day induction programme if successful.
• Right to work in the UK (with relevant Adaptation/ONP if applicable).
• Ability to commence work within 3 months of offer.
