An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking, enthusiastic, and motivated Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Neurorehab and Stroke Therapy Teams at Bolton. There are two posts currently within the service, one within the Neurorehab team and one on the inpatient stroke unit. There will be the opportunity to rotate through these services as well as the community stroke team in the future.
The Stroke Therapy service is based at the Royal Bolton Hospital and may support the wider Stroke Therapy and Community Stroke team based at Breightmet Health Centre. The post holder will be part of a friendly and dynamic team working closely to provide collaborative care and specialist Occupational Therapy treatment, intervention and advice.
The successful applicant will work as part of a well established and highly skilled Stroke Therapy multidisciplinary team, alongside physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, therapy assistants and nurses. The service actively encourages training and staff development supported by experienced senior staff. The post holder will benefit from working within a supportive team, with a robust supervision and appraisal programme, excellent in-house training and CPD. Supervision and support will be provided by Band 7 Occupational Therapists.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working as an autonomous practitioner within the neurorehab and stroke therapy services supported by highly specialist therapists.
- Performing therapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes.
- Managing a defined caseload, using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
- Providing clinical education, advice and support for junior therapy staff and support staff.
- Providing highly specialist knowledge, skills and advice to clients, and being a source of expertise for therapy staff, other members of the MDT and other agencies.
- Supervising, educating and assessing the performance of therapy students.
- Contributing to service research and audit activities.
- Proposing any service changes within own professional speciality area.
You will be required to be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and its users, which could include participation in a weekend rota and may cross cover other services within the stroke and neurorehab services.
