The Role

Bolton Council is seeking Motor Vehicle Technicians to join our dedicated team responsible for maintaining the council’s fleet; ensuring we have operational and roadworthy vehicles to fulfil our contractual and legal obligations.
As an HGV Mechanic, you will ensure that the fleet vehicles are maintained to the required standards in line with the manufacturer’s, DVSA, Operator Licence undertakings and legal guidelines. You’ll undertake vehicle inspections, services and repairs to ensure operational demands are met with minimal impact on vehicle downtime. You will also contribute to the safe, lawful, efficient and professional operation of the Council and customer’s vehicles, equipment and plant. This role is also eligible for a tool allowance which can be discussed in further details at the interview stage.
About You
We’re looking for experienced and motivated technicians with a passion for delivering high-quality work who enjoy working as part of a team and take pride in keeping the fleet mobile and operational. Experience of working on a variety of vehicles with good diagnostic and problem-solving skills is key, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Motor Vehicle Technician. Proven experience of MOT preparation and knowledge of MOT testing standards (HGV/PCV vehicles) is also essential. You’ll be an effective member of the team who takes pride in keeping the fleet mobile and operational. Good written and oral communication skills, as well as having a proactive approach to Health and Safety guidelines and regulations is essential. You’ll be required to have a flexible approach to working hours and be able to cover different shift patterns over the working week (Monday to Friday).
