Role Purpose
To provide high-quality, person-centred care and support to children and young people living in a residential setting, promoting their safety, well-being, independence and personal development.
Working as part of a team, you will help create a safe, nurturing and positive home environment where children and young people can thrive.
- Provide practical, emotional and social support to children and young people in line with their individual care plans.
- Build positive, professional relationships that promote trust, confidence and resilience.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.
- Support education, health appointments, leisure activities, life skills and independence.
- Assist with personal care, medication (following training) and daily routines where required.
- Encourage positive behaviour using agreed strategies and approaches.
- Maintain accurate records, complete reports and contribute to handovers, care planning and risk assessments.
- Undertake Key Worker responsibilities for allocated children and young people.
- Maintain a safe, clean and welcoming home environment, including supporting with meals and household tasks.
- Work collaboratively with families, social workers, education providers and other professionals.
- Attend supervision, team meetings and mandatory training to support professional development.
- Work flexibly as part of the home's rota to ensure the needs of the service are met.
- Carry out all duties in accordance with safeguarding requirements, relevant legislation and organisational policies.
- Relevant Level 3 qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
- Good communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow policies, procedures and safeguarding practices.
- Experience working with children and young people, particularly those with emotional and behavioural needs.
- Experience supporting behaviours that may challenge.
- Good IT, organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Flexible approach to working shifts, including evenings, weekends and sleep-ins.
