Senior Education Health Care Assistant – Grade E (Permanent)
Newfield School is a well‑resourced special school in Blackburn, Lancashire that provides high‑quality specialist education, care and therapy for children and young people aged 4‑19 with a wide range of needs, including autism, PMLD, SLD, complex medical needs, sensory impairments and physical disabilities.
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Senior Education Health Care Assistant to work closely with teachers and senior staff to support pupils in achieving the outcomes outlined in their individual Education Health Care Plans.
The role involves providing physical, medical and general care support, promoting effective communication and aiding classroom management.
Responsibilities
- Assist pupils with daily living activities, medical and physical care needs as outlined in their Individual Education Health Care Plans.
- Support teachers and senior staff in delivering a child‑centred education, including facilitating communication strategies such as Makaton, PECS and other communication aids.
- Help manage classroom behaviour and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Attend professional development days (five full days per year) and any additional training scheduled by the Deputy Headteacher.
- Collaborate with therapists, healthcare professionals and external agencies to ensure holistic care for pupils.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Prior experience working with children and young people is welcome but not essential; a child‑centred approach is essential.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- Willingness to undergo the required safeguarding, DBS and other pre‑employment checks.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Working Hours & Salary
- 33.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year during term time.
- Typical hours: 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, plus an additional agreed hour each week.
- Salary: £27,254 to £30,024 pro‑rata (£14.13 to £15.56 per hour).
- Additional pay for training days and extra hours required on up to six occasions per year.
