Could your experience and encouragement help a child feel more confident at school? Hays Education is partnering with welcoming primary schools across Moseley (B13) to recruit SEN Teaching Assistants and 1:1 Support Assistants for September 2026. These schools are looking for dependable people who can offer consistent, individual support and help pupils enjoy positive experiences in the classroom.
Whether you already have school-based SEN experience or have supported children in another setting, this could be a great next step in a genuinely rewarding career.
Your new role: No two pupils are the same, so your support will be tailored to the child and the school. You may work closely with one pupil, support a small intervention group or help children access learning within the wider classroom.
- Building a trusting and consistent relationship with a pupil who has additional needs
- Adapting activities for children with Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language needs or other learning needs
- Using agreed strategies to encourage engagement and positive behaviour
- Helping pupils develop independence, communication and confidence
- Sharing observations and progress with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals
- Contributing to a calm, safe and inclusive classroom
There are full-time and part-time positions available, including longer-term placements across the academic year.
What you'll need to succeed: We're interested in hearing from supportive and reliable candidates who:
- Have supported children or young people with additional needs in a school, care, nursery or community setting
- Bring patience, empathy and a calm approach to their work
- Can build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries
- Are comfortable following individual support plans and guidance from school staff
- Want to help every pupil feel included and able to succeed
- Hold a relevant qualification, although this is desirable rather than essential
- Additional experience with personal care, behaviour support, Makaton, PECS, Team Teach or similar approaches would be welcomed.
What you’ll get in return: Competitive rates of pay. A dedicated local consultant with more than 10 years of school-based experience. Free CPD and training focused on SEN support. Access to full-time and part-time roles in local, supportive schools. Regular guidance before and throughout your placement. Long-term opportunities, with the potential for permanent work.
