The School of Nursing and Allied Health (SoNAH) at Birmingham Newman University is seeking to appoint an outstanding Principal Lecturer, Clinical Skills and Simulation to join our growing academic team. This is a strategic appointment designed to support the ongoing delivery, enhancement and expansion of clinical skills, practical teaching and simulation-based education across the School of Nursing and Allied Health.
As the School continues to grow its portfolio across Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Paramedic Science and future healthcare programmes, we are seeking an experienced and innovative leader who can help shape the next phase of our skills and simulation provision. The successful post holder will play a pivotal role in ensuring that students benefit from contemporary, high-quality and professionally relevant learning experiences that prepare them for the realities of modern healthcare practice.
We welcome applications from healthcare professionals with substantial experience in clinical skills teaching, practical education, simulation-based learning, practice learning, workforce development or related educational leadership roles. Applicants may come from a range of professional backgrounds including Nursing and or Allied Health Professions and should be able to demonstrate how they have used simulation and practical teaching approaches to enhance learning, professional capability and positive outcomes for patient care.
Working closely with the Head of Subject – Placements and Simulation, Heads of Subject, technical teams and academic colleagues, the post holder will provide leadership across simulation and clinical skills activity within the School. The role includes supporting the development and delivery of simulation-based education, embedding simulation within curricula, ensuring effective utilisation of skills facilities and resources, coordinating clinical skills activity across programmes and supporting compliance with Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Body (PSRB) requirements.
The successful candidate will contribute strategically to the continued development of simulation and practical learning opportunities across undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development provision. They will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that simulation and skills-based teaching remain innovative, evidence-informed and aligned with the evolving needs of health and social care services.
