Join the Department for Transport’s award-winning Communications Directorate as a Marketing Team Leader. Working on high-profile campaigns including THINK! Road Safety and Clean Energy initiatives, you’ll lead a talented team to deliver innovative, audience-focused marketing that drives behaviour change. Supporting the Head of Marketing, you’ll combine strategic thinking, strong leadership and communications expertise to develop impactful campaigns across paid and low-cost channels, helping to shape departmental priorities and make a real difference to people’s lives.
Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:
- Develop overarching strategies for the department’s behaviour change communications based on insight and evaluation.
- Develop paid marketing campaigns and deliver them in a timely manner, within budget and in close collaboration with policy colleagues, stakeholders, and communication agencies.
- Compile, distil and interpret evidence from a wide range of sources to inform campaign activity, including commissioning research and working with complex data sources and Government statisticians.
- Ensure all campaigns are measured effectively, striving for a clear ROI, with activity refined based on insight and evidence.
- Brief and procure external agencies as appropriate, manage suppliers, agencies and contracts effectively ensuring accountability and continuous improvement.
- Review, provide challenge and input to DFT Professional Assurance cases for Cabinet Office advertising spend controls.
- Horizon scanning, including close working with policy and other teams across communications, to understand and plan for upcoming priorities, ensuring buy in and support where required from teams across the department.
- Provide professional communications advice to Ministers, special advisers, senior policy officials and communication colleagues.
- Oversee and steer delivery of campaign activity across owned and earned channels including organic social activity, campaign websites and stakeholder engagement.
- Build and develop skills and capability in the team and flex resource to meet emerging demands.
- Build strong relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders to support campaign delivery.
- Manage the marketing budgets in line with departmental financial processes keeping value for money front of mind at all times.
- Present at external and internal events and meetings, including to senior leadership and Ministers, and represent the department at external meetings and on external working groups.
- Manage Parliamentary Questions, Freedom of Information requests and media queries to time.
- Line manage giving appropriate support and advice in line with departmental obligations and guidance.
