Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate all maintenance and engineering activities, ensuring projects, shutdowns, and maintenance schedules are effectively planned, resourced, and delivered.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to develop a more proactive maintenance function, improving reliability, efficiency, and overall plant performance.
  • Lead and support maintenance teams through effective management of training, employee relations, absence control, holiday planning, and shift resourcing.
  • Monitor and improve maintenance performance by developing KPIs, maintaining preventative and corrective maintenance systems, and ensuring SAP records are accurate and up to date.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards through the management of stores, risk assessments, method statements, control documentation, and safe working practices.

Requirements:

  • Proven Maintenance Manager with experience in heavy engineering environments, with a strong track record of leading large maintenance functions.
  • Experienced in managing and developing sizeable, unionised maintenance teams, including supervisors and skilled craft personnel, with the ability to build relationships, engage employees, handle challenging conversations, and drive training and development initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering maintenance improvements, contributing to strategic maintenance planning, and implementing initiatives that maximise equipment reliability while minimising downtime.
  • Strong understanding of statutory compliance requirements, including LOLER, L8 and other relevant engineering and health & safety legislation, with a recognised health and safety qualification being advantageous.
  • Experienced in managing significant maintenance budgets (£4m-£8m), delivering large-scale capital projects, and ensuring HSE best practice is maintained within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
