To support and deliver a full Patient Environment cleaning service, enhancing patient experience and supporting the Trust in providing a cohesive, cost-effective, efficient, and fully compliant Environmental Cleanliness service.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining standards set out in the National Cleaning Standards and improving compliance with the Patient Led Assessments of the Care Environment.
  • Ensuring a clean environment for patient care in accordance with Trust Local policies, health and safety requirements, NHS National Specification of Cleaning Standards, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), and Patient Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE) audits.
  • Adhering to Infection Prevention & Control principles specifically ‘Hand Hygiene’ and ‘Bare below the Elbow’.
  • Following the Trust's Uniform Appearance Code/Policy at all times, maintaining a high standard of appearance and personal hygiene.
  • Duties include vacuum cleaning, damp mopping of floors, damp dusting of furniture/fittings, cleaning of mirrors and internal glass, sanitary ware (baths, showers, sinks, toilets), washing of tiled surfaces and paintwork, and high dusting of walls and ceilings (to shoulder height).
  • High-level cleaning above shoulder height to be undertaken by the ‘Housekeeping enhanced clean team’.
  • Floor maintenance and changing of all curtains.
  • Providing focused cleaning practices (Hydrochloride based products and solutions) when presented with an infected area (Barrier rooms and Bays).
  • Assisting the enhanced clean team with deep clean/terminal cleans when necessary (in-patient areas).
  • Responding during outbreaks of infections such as diarrhoea and vomiting, Clostridium Difficile, Norovirus, etc.
