It is an exciting time to join the Pharmacy Team at Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP). We have an excellent opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to become part of our established team of specialist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians supporting mental health services. This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference to patient care by ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines across our inpatient services.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care and who can demonstrate the Trust’s values through the 6Cs: Care, Compassion, Courage, Communication, Competence and Commitment. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, patients and carers to support medicines optimisation and contribute to the delivery of safe, patient-centred care within a mental health setting.

Applicants must be registered Pharmacy Technicians with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development. This is a full-time position based at Springview Unit, Clatterbridge Hospital, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The current postholder is retiring November 2026 and this is part of the team's succession plan to get this post recruited to with a proposed start date of 30/11/2026 subject to successful completion of pre-employment checks.

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be responsible for providing a comprehensive ward-based pharmacy service across inpatient mental health units. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking medicines reconciliation for newly admitted patients to ensure accurate medication records.
  • Assessing patients’ own medicines for suitability and safe re-use in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Ordering, supplying and managing medicines required for individual patients and ward stock.
  • Supporting patients and carers by providing information and advice regarding their medicines.
  • Working collaboratively with nursing, medical and pharmacy colleagues to promote medicines optimisation and improve patient outcomes.
  • Contributing to discharge planning, including assessing patients’ own medicines and ensuring appropriate medication supplies are available.
  • Undertaking technical accuracy checking duties where accredited and authorised.
  • Supporting the safe storage, handling and administration of medicines within inpatient areas.
  • Participating in service development, audit activities and quality improvement initiatives to enhance pharmacy services.

Applicants should be proactive, organised and able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. You should have post-qualification experience in a ward-based pharmacy environment and either hold, or be working towards, an accredited Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification.
