This is an exciting opportunity for a successful candidate to join a busy orthopaedic department at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be based primarily at Royal Hampshire County Hospital.
The successful candidate will need to be fully committed to the provision of high-quality orthopaedic shoulder and elbow service and will be expected to take a lead role in the department’s current shoulder and elbow research portfolio. The department has a strong track record in research with ongoing industry funded projects and systematic reviews.
In addition to research commitments, there is a clinical role involving supervised and independent operating sessions, and outpatient clinics, forming part of a highly motivated multidisciplinary team. There may be opportunities to supplement the quoted salary with additional elective sessions and on calls as required by the department on an ad hoc basis.
This is an ideal opportunity for a post FRCS (Tr & Orth) surgeon to gain further specialist shoulder and elbow experience in a senior role before applying for a consultant post. The post holder must have FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent, be on the Specialist Register or be within 12 months of completion of specialist training.
The clinical duties will include those normally expected in the Trauma & Orthopaedic Department of any large acute District General Hospital in the United Kingdom. Our clinical staff have a continuing commitment to their patients and for the proper functioning of the Department. The post holder will be required to undertake administrative and managerial duties and exert leadership as necessary to fulfil this responsibility.
The post holder will be asked to cover a weekend on-call on an up to 1 in 18 basis. There will also be opportunities to contribute to the general on-call rota should individual applicants wish to do so.
