We are seeking to appoint a Trust FY2 Doctor with a strong interest in developing a career in Surgery. This post is ideally suited to a doctor who has successfully completed Foundation Training and is looking to broaden their surgical experience across a range of specialties before progressing to Core Surgical Training.

This varied and rewarding role offers the opportunity to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience within a supportive surgical team, helping to strengthen your clinical knowledge, practical skills, and surgical portfolio. It is particularly well suited to aspiring surgeons who wish to enhance their experience outside of a Deanery Core Training programme while building a strong foundation for future career progression.

As a Trust FY2 Doctor, you will contribute to the care of inpatients, outpatients, and day‑case patients, working closely with experienced consultants and multidisciplinary teams. You will also have opportunities to participate in teaching, audit, quality improvement projects, and professional development activities, providing excellent preparation for future surgical training applications.

This is a non‑Deanery post and applicants must hold full GMC registration with a licence to practise. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated doctor to gain broad clinical experience within a supportive and dynamic surgical team. The successful candidate will be involved in the day‑to‑day management of day‑case, outpatient, and inpatient services, working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver high‑quality patient care.

The role includes participation in ward rounds, operating theatre sessions, specialist outpatient clinics, diagnostic services, and pre‑assessment clinics. You will work collaboratively with nurses, fellow doctors, patients, families, and senior clinicians, ensuring effective communication and coordinated patient management. The post also involves participation in the emergency on‑call rota and supporting junior colleagues, including supervision of Foundation Year 1 doctors where applicable.

Alongside clinical duties, you will maintain accurate and timely clinical records, including correspondence, results management, and discharge summaries. There will be opportunities to contribute to teaching medical students, participate in clinical audit and quality improvement projects, and attend regular educational, multidisciplinary, morbidity and mortality, and surgical audit meetings.

We are looking for an individual who is committed to continuous professional development, keen to prepare for higher examinations, and enthusiastic about contributing to service improvement.

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well‑being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers. We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust.
